Shoppers at the Farmer’s Market in Downtown Austin    The Austin Main Street Project is
  revitalizing  Austin’s downtown while        
  preserving its uniqueness. The project is  
  made up of over 30 volunteers from all
  walks of life with the common goal of a  
  vibrant, engaging destination spot full of   
  thriving businesses. Four committees   
  specializing in Promotions, Business 
  Development, Design and Finance guide 
  the revitalization activities. Funding is  
  provided by the City of Austin, it's Port
  Authority, Austin HRA, the Hormel 
  Foundation and other grants. Forgivable 
  loans, conservation easement purchases and low-interest loans are available to help with storefront renovations or redevelopment. Training for shop owners and assistance with developing and promoting local business is also offered.

The Austin Main Street Project knows that starting a business can be a time consuming and financially challenging process.  Our trained staff and local volunteers are here to assist you with a business plan and help you find the downtown location to fit your needs. Whether purchasing or renting a building, the Austin Main Street Project is available to help guide you through the process.  New retail businesses may also qualify for our rent reimbursement program which provides a percentage of matching funds for a qualifying business’ first year of operation
